GEOLOGY + SLOW PUBLISHING + LISTENING

We are a small-scale and independent publishing platform supporting work at the intersection of landscape, language, and ecology.

Lonely Stone Press offers a unique approach to publishing at the intersection of sound, image, and place. Our work treats listening not as passive reception but as a material, embodied act, one that gathers over time like sediment. Each publication is conceived as a cairn: a structure built from solitary ideas placed in careful relation.

What sets our practice apart is the metaphorical and tactile integration of geology - stones as ideas. We create spaces where sound art, photography, and text form resonant terrains:  listening, witnessing, and reclaiming, focussing on the erased, or unheard.

The Resonant Terrain

Our next project focusses on a feminist, psychogeographically informed publishing project. It will explore how ideas - like stones - can be placed, carried, and echoed across terrain.
Our current focus, through the forthcoming publication (and a work in progress) The Resonant Terrain, investigates listening not as a passive reception but as a material and political practice of attention, memory, and resistance.

Through Resonant Terrain, and its companion concept Sedimented, we are curating and publishing contributions from sound artists, photographers, and writers who treat listening as a form of counter-mapping: a way to read place, hold tension, and open up new kinds of knowledge.

These publications emerge from a desire to honour the inaudible, the embodied, and the peripheral.
